We all know the popular saying, “happy wife, happy life”, but in order to get to be so-called “happy wife”, you have to make it through the process of planning a wedding. Today on the blog, we’re advocating for the importance of taking care of yourself and focusing on how to stay stress-free!
Did you know that the average engagement lasts 15 months? So while you’re enjoying being a fiancé, incorporate the following into your normal routine and you’ll be on the right track to being said “happy wife”.
Self-Care Tips
01. Make time each week to do something non-wedding related.
Yes, you heard me! The planning process should not be taking up 100% of your thoughts or energy – you have to leave that to the professionals! Whether it’s making time to go for a run, hitting a class at Pure Barre, reading a book at the local coffee shop, or relaxing on the couch, make the time and hold yourself accountable to following through – without feeling guilty! This weekly time you take for yourself is a judgment-free zone, so go ahead and enjoy it!
02. Take a break from all the wedding talk.
Have you ever had a problem that seems impossible to figure out and then you go to bed and you suddenly have the solution? That’s because giving yourself a break and knowing when to step away from a problem, actually has its benefits. That’s why I always encourage my couples to schedule regular date nights that are talk free of all things wedding-related! Taking the necessary break from dissecting every tiny detail of your wedding will pay off in the end! Leave wedding talk at home for the night, and focus on each other! Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to figure out those seating arrangements and where to sit crazy Uncle Joe. We guarantee that taking our advice will make it much easier to conquer the challenging problems when you have a clear mind.
03. Make bath time a priority.
Okay, so not everyone loves baths as much as I do, but who doesn’t love a good pamper session? Now more than ever, at-home spa treatments are readily available, and it’s time to take advantage of them! So order those facial masks, pour the bath bubbles, light the candles, and spend a few extra minutes in your home spa – a.k.a your bathroom. Here are a few of my go-to products that make bathtime all the more fun:
- Renewing Mud Mask
- The Big Sleep Bath Bomb
- Parfumerie Lavender Geranium Bubble Bath
- Anti-Oxident + Face Mask Box
- Dark & Sea Salt Caramel
04. Speak up and be an active communicator.
Whether it’s communicating with your soon-to-be hubby, your wedding planner, your friends and family, or even your boss, communicating will keep you more calm and ultimately more focused. I know, I know…it’s easier said than done, but if you are stressed, or if something is bothering you, don’t hold it in. Instead, communicate your worries to those who are in your inner circle! That’s what they’re there for!
05. Unplug from technology.
Chances are, your daily scrolls through Facebook, Instagram, or even Pinterest (for those latest wedding trends), are taking away from your much needed beauty rest. We’re all guilty of this, but, make it a goal to limit your time doing so, which will then allow you extra time to maybe enjoy breakfast, an extra 20 minutes of sleep, or time to catch up on the book that hasn’t been touched for months! You know, all those things that you did before taking on planning a wedding? Let’s bring them back!
I can’t stress enough the importance of taking care of yourself while taking on the endeavor of planning a wedding. Don’t forget to make your own needs a priority and spend the time focusing on your relationship!
